Two-Tier Volunteer Structure
Volunteers must identify the type of volunteer service they are requesting and complete the appropriate volunteer application based on that selection. To support both student safety and community involvement, Central School District 13J utilizes a two-tier volunteer structure: Regular/Ongoing Volunteers and Occasional/Event Volunteers.

Regular/Ongoing Volunteers are individuals who volunteer on a recurring basis, have ongoing involvement with students, or participate in activities that may involve more frequent or sustained student contact. Regular/Ongoing Volunteers are required to complete the applicable volunteer application, background check, acknowledgments, and required Vector Training - Volunteer Orientation module before receiving final approval.
Examples of Regular/Ongoing Volunteers may include:
- Recurring classroom, library, office, or school support volunteers
- Mentors, tutors, club, activity, or athletic program volunteers
- Practicum students, student teachers, and other college trainees
- Coaches or recurring athletic program volunteers
Occasional/Event VolunteersOccasional/Event Volunteers are individuals who volunteer for limited, occasional, or one-time school events or activities and serve under the direct supervision of District staff. Occasional/Event Volunteers are required to complete the applicable volunteer application, background check, and acknowledgments. Vector Training is not required for Occasional/Event Volunteers unless otherwise determined by the District based on the nature of the volunteer assignment.
Examples of Occasional/Event Volunteers may include:
- Field trip chaperones, classroom party volunteers, and career day speakers
- Book fair, school carnival, family event, registration, or back-to-school event volunteers
- School event, assembly, fundraising, athletic event, or concession support volunteers
