Enrollment closed for 1st and 2nd grade at ACES and 2nd and 5th at MES

Enrollment at several grade levels at Ash Creek Elementary and Monmouth Elementary will be closed for the 2026-27 school year.  Accordingly, students who are not currently attending those schools/grade levels will not be allowed to transition to such placement.  We are closing specific grade levels to support the district’s class size protocol that is part of our teacher contract.  Although enrollment is slightly up (2,900 as of 9/23/26), it is not enough to justify additional staffing at this time. The district will continue to monitor enrollment at all buildings and will have the ability to open back up grade levels should the situations change at those buildings.  However, the district needs to balance our contractual obligations, while being fiscally responsible. The following grade levels will be closed to additional enrollment:

 

Ash Creek Elementary:  1st grade, 2nd grade

 

Monmouth Elementary:  2nd grade, 5th grade

 

At this time, out of district enrollment will be closed for these two schools' grade levels for students who live outside of the Central School District 13J boundaries. 

 

Any incoming students in the identified grade levels at Ash Creek and Monmouth who live in the Central School District 13J boundaries will have the ability to enroll at the other schools.  The district will continue to monitor enrollment K-12.  Further adjustments may be made throughout the school year.
