Central School District 13J is excited to announce the selection of the next principal at Independence Elementary School, Dr. Nicole Smith. Nicole will be replacing Principal Sharman Ensminger, who will join the district office as the Director of Equity, Access, and Instructional Technology.

Dr. Nicole Smith is in her 18th year of service as an educator in the state of Oregon. Her journey through education has been as an elementary teacher, English Language Development Specialist, and currently as a K-12 Instructional Support for Title III in the Tigard-Tualatin School District. “Her extensive background and training focused on English Language Development, Title III, Positive Behavior Intervention Supports (PBIS) and Equity will allow students and staff to continue moving forward learning, growing, working, and leading at Independence Elementary,” stated Superintendent Jennifer Kubista.

“I am excited to be a part of Independence Elementary School.” stated Ms. Smith. “We will continue to build a school culture where students and staff love to come to learn and teach. I look forward to collaborating with the entire community on a shared vision so that every student experiences educational success.”
Dr. Smith has her Doctorate in Educational Leadership and her Masters in Education with an endorsement in English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) obtained from George Fox University. Her Bachelor of Arts in Education, was obtained from Western Oregon University.

Current Central Teacher Roseanna Larson has been selected to serve as the next Assistant Principal at Central High School. Roseanna will be replacing Assistant Principal Jason Clark, who will join the district office as the Director of Program Planning & Project Management.

Roseanna Larson has spent her entire service as an educator in the state of Oregon and at Central High School. While at Central she has served as the English Department Chair, on the Building Leadership Team, is the current Site Coordinator for the AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) college and career readiness program. Ms. Larson is also a member of the Central PBIS team and part of the Trauma Informed cohort. She also developed and built the PowerPeers leadership class in 2015 focused on students developing and making a positive impact at Central High School. “Ms. Larson’s strong history at Central High School, her leadership roles, and positive involvement at the school and in the community will be a great addition to our administrative team at CHS,” stated incoming Principal Donna Servignat.

“I have been a community member, here, most of my life since moving to Oregon from Florida in 1975,” stated Ms. Larson. “I believe strongly in building authentic relationships within our communities and honoring and respecting student voice. With each decision made, we must always ask ourselves, " How does this benefit and serve all of our students?”

Her Masters in Teaching, and her Bachelor of Arts in Humanities were both obtained from Western Oregon University.
