The Central School District 13J Board of Directors is pleased to announce that three finalists have been selected for further consideration to be the District’s next Superintendent beginning July 1, 2017. Superintendent Buzz Brazeau will finish his time in the District on June 30, 2017. The Board and a screening committee of staff and community thoroughly reviewed an applicant field of 36 candidates and the Board conducted initial interviews with several candidates. The three finalists being considered (in alphabetical order) are:
Greg A. English
Since 2014, Greg English has been the Principal at Tillamook High School in the Tillamook School District where he also previously served 8 years as an elementary school principal. Tillamook has an enrollment of about 2,250 students. He was an elementary principal for 6 years at Neah-Kah-Nie School District in Rockaway Beach, OR. English’s teaching experience includes elementary and middle school positions in Oregon and California. In 2008, he was voted Tillamook County Educator of the Year. He has a Master of Education degree in Teaching from Azusa Pacific University and a Bachelor of Arts in Religion and Philosophy from Northwest College.
Jennifer R. Kubista
Jennifer Kubista has been the Director of Student Life in the Tacoma School District for the past 6 years where she is responsible for implementing the whole child initiative district-wide among other duties. Located in Tacoma, Washington the school district has about 30,000 students. She also served as the Director of Athletics and Activities while at Tacoma. Previously, Kubista served as the Commissioner of the Columbia Empire Volleyball Association in Beaverton, Oregon for 2 years. She has been recognized with the Northwest PBIS Network Champions Award in 2014 and as Athletic Director of the Year in 2010 by the Washington Secondary Schools Athletic Administrators Association. In 2016 she completed her work in the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD) Influence Leader Class. Kubista has a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Seattle University and a Masters of Arts degree in Education from the University of Connecticut.
Tiana J. Tucker
For the last 6 years, Tiana Tucker has been an elementary principal in the Lincoln County School District in Newport, Oregon. Her school has 450 students and the district student population is about 5,200. She currently teaches as an Adjunct Professor for Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment for the University of Oregon and previously taught Character and Ethics in Leadership as an Adjunct Professor for Concordia University. She has 10 years of classroom experience as an English teacher in Oregon and Idaho. Tucker has a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from George Fox University and a Master of Teaching degree from Pacific University.
The Central School Board will now begin thorough background and reference checks of the Superintendent finalists. While the background and reference checks are underway, the district will host a "Meet and Greet", an opportunity for staff and community members to meet the three candidates and provide feedback to the School Board. This event will be held on Wednesday, March 22, 2017, at 4 p.m. in the high school cafeteria. Please join us to meet our finalists. The School Board will also conduct a second interview with each finalist in executive session to finish the visit. The School Board expects to announce the successful candidate at the April 3, 2017 board meeting.
