As of Wednesday, October 7th, all schools are operating on normal schedules.
Update on the threat against Central High School that was rumored on social media Tuesday night:
At approximately 9:30pm the text of a group chat was posted to Twitter. That posting soon went viral and within 10 minutes, the School District and the Independence Police Department were in communication and investigating the situation.
Through that investigation, we were able to determine, with a reasonable level of certainty, the source of the rumor. A plan was developed to address the perceived threat while opening school as usual on Wednesday. At that time, a message was sent to parents and staff of the high school, and information was posted to the District and High School Facebook pages and website.
The IPD and MPD coordinated to provide additional presence at all buildings on Wednesday and will continue to do so as warranted. Those involved in the threat have been contacted by police, who will continue to investigate, and deal with each individual as appropriate.
In the meantime, I would like to compliment the staff who followed procedures to ensure the safety of all students, and encourage all of us to participate in keeping our District safe. We will get back to normal as soon as possible.
