Budget Meeting Notice - Thursday, May 09, 2013

Notice of Central School District 13J Budget Meeting - May 14, 2013

A public meeting of the Budget Committee of the Central School District 13J, Polk County, State of Oregon, to discuss the budget for the fiscal year July 1, 2013 to June 30, 2014, will be held in the Talmadge Middle School Library, 51 16^th Street, Independence, Oregon. The meeting will take place on the 14^th day of May 2013 at 6:30 p.m. The purpose of the meeting is to receive the budget message and to receive comment from the public on the budget. A copy of the budget document may be inspected or obtained on or after 6:30 p.m. May 14th, 2013 at the District Office, 1610 Monmouth Street, Independence, Oregon between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

This is a public meeting where deliberations of the Budget Committee will take place. Any person may appear at the meeting and discuss the proposed programs with the Budget Committee.

ELEMENTARY BOUNDARIES REDRAWN - COMMUNITY FORUMS SCHEDULED

Community Forums have been scheduled in the following locations to take input from the community as the administration looks at how to redraw the elementary school boundaries:

Monday, April 8 - Ash Creek Elementary School, 6:30 p.m.

Tuesday, April 9 - Monmouth Elementary School, 6:30 p.m.

Wednesday, April 10 - Independence Elementary School, 6:30 p.m.

Thursday, April 11 - Henry Hill Elementary School, 6:30 p.m.

BOUNDARY CHANGE PROCESS PLANNED - Wednesday, March 20, 2013

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL ATTENDANCE AREAS TO BE REDRAWN

With the repurposing of Henry Hill Elementary school at the end of this year and the consolidation of our elementary programs into three schools, the district is beginning the process to redraw the attendance boundaries for the remaining three elementary schools. The administration is seeking input from our parents and community. Please click on the link below for more details on how to provide feedback, including a survey. The tasks set before educators and school systems today are much different than they have been in past years. Due to ongoing reforms, Central School District is hard at work restructuring our curriculum, instruction, and support systems so that we can effectively address the new accountability expectations expressed in federal and state laws.

However, as we work on student academic excellence, we keep in mind the history and traditions that have been part of Monmouth and Independence. Our athletic and extra-curricular programs have been strong and we are ensuring that this continues. Our partnerships with the City of Monmouth, the City of Independence, and Western Oregon University are expanding and we have developed some wonderful new initiatives like our Tutor Academy program.

We are seeing improvement on all fronts, and I am pleased most by the renewed focus on academic excellence and rigor.
